Paint the City Blue

Join the citywide celebration to Paint the City Blue and show appreciation for the officers of the Rochester Police Department.

Residents, businesses, schools, organizations, and community groups are invited to decorate Rochester in blue in recognition of National Thank a Police Officer Day.

How to Participate

Showing your support can be as simple or creative as you would like:

Hang a blue ribbon or bow on a tree, mailbox, door, or storefront.
Replace a porch light bulb with a blue bulb.
String blue lights on a tree, shrub, window, or business display.
Place a Thank A Cop sign or decal in your yard or window.
Create your own blue display in the spirit of the celebration.

There are no required display and no cost to participate. Simply add a little blue and help Rochester show its appreciation. Pick Up Your Paint the City Blue Swag.

Rochester Thank A Cop: your questions answered

What is Rochester Thank A Cop?

A community-led initiative, started in 2018, that shows appreciation for the Rochester Police Department. It raises funds to buy gifts for officers and hands out yard signs, bows, and blue lights so residents can show their support. Rochester Main Street has been its fiscal sponsor since 2024.

How do I take part in Paint the City Blue?

Add a little blue to your home or business: a ribbon or bow on a tree or mailbox, a blue porch bulb, string lights, or a Thank A Cop sign in your window. There is no cost and no required display. Free swag is available from August 1 at Holy Rosary Credit Union, the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, and Granite Steak & Grill, while supplies last.
